Melanie Verplaetse
Owner & Principal Designer
Melanie launched MV Design in 2013, driven by a dedication to designs that blend creativity, functionality, and craftsmanship. Growing up immersed in her family’s construction business, she developed a strong foundation in design and building practices.
An alumna of the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture, Melanie met Kate during their studies, forming a collaborative partnership rooted in shared values of thoughtful and functional design. She began her career with Olendia Design, where she honed her skills and built lasting relationships within the local design and construction industries.
With a portfolio that spans Winnipeg, surrounding cottage country, and beyond, Melanie is known for designing distinctive homes, lakeside retreats, and vibrant commercial spaces. Her ability to balance creative vision with practical solutions has earned her a reputation for delivering organized, enduring designs that are both functional and beautiful.
Kate Hanson
Designer & Creative Lead
With a background in fine arts, Kate brings a distinctive creative lens to her design work, blending artistic perspective with technical precision. She met Melanie at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture, where they specialized in Interior Design and discovered a shared passion for unique and inspired spaces.
During her studies, Kate embarked on the renovation of a 108-year-old Victorian house – her informal education. This hands-on project deepened her understanding of construction and design, shaping her practical, detail-oriented approach to every project.
Kate’s career spans design work for private residences, retail design, and large-scale commercial projects across Alberta, Ontario, and Manitoba. Her process-oriented approach combines creativity, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering meticulously crafted designs tailored to each client’s needs.
